Sec.1/1681/48.

Gentlemen,

27th April, 1948.

61

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your

petition dated 19th April, 1948, regarding the revised terms of service for the Inspectorate of the Police Force and to inform you that a further communication will be sent to you shortly.

2.

In the meantime I am to state with reference to paragraphs 14 and 15 of your petition that Government has no intention of requiring non-gazetted Police officers wishing to retire on or after reaching the age of forty-five to give three years notice of their intention to retire and that such officers opting for the revised terms of service will be required to give no longer notice than they do at present of their intention to retire. It will be noted that no mention was made in the Establishment Officer's circular letter of 29th January, 1948, of any requirement of three years' notice.

3.

I am also to add that if it is not possible to give a detailed reply to the other points made in your petition three weeks before the date on which the normal option period of three months is due to expire in any individual officer's case, an appropriate extension of the option period will be granted to any officer of your association who wishes to avail himself of such an offer.

The European Police Inspectors' Association, Hong Kong.

I am, Gentlemen,

Your obedient servant,

(Sgd.) R.J. Minnitt.

for Colonial Secretary.
